  1. Why does Jesus ask the ruler to sell all that he has?
  2. The rich ruler went away sad, not defensive or angry. Why do you think he had this reaction?
  3. Why is it so hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of God?
  4. According to Jesus, salvation is “hard” and “impossible” without God. Why?
  5. Looking at Jesus’ reply, what is the cost and benefit of following him?

Hosea 1:1-8, 3:1-3 “The God Who Loves the Unlovable”

  1. What connections do you see between Gomer and yourself?
  2. What do you pursue for happiness in place of the Lord? What attracts you to these pursuits?
  3. How would you feel towards Hosea if you were Gomer after he saved you? How would you treat Hosea?
  4. Hosea told Gomer, “It’s me and no one else.” God is telling you the same thing. What are some things keeping you from giving your all to God?

  4. Romans 8:37-39 says nothing can separate you from God the Father’s love.

  1. Looking around our world, what things do you see people pursuing to fill their lives with meaning and purpose? Do any of these things bring the fulfillment hoped for?

  3. How do you try to fill the emptiness or loneliness in your life?
  4. How have you responded to Jesus’ invitation to receive His living water?
  5. How is Jesus’ gift of salvation different from what the world offers?
